What is the difference between plantation, faux wood, and real wood shutters?

Plantation refers to the louver style (wider 2.5 to 4.5-inch slats). Faux wood and real wood refer to material. Faux wood plantation shutters use a composite that resists UV and temperature swings. Real wood plantation shutters use natural wood with grain and stain options. Most Utah homes use faux wood for sun-facing rooms and reserve real wood for formal interior rooms.

How long do shutters last?

Properly installed shutters last 20 to 25 years or more. Hardware and louver mechanisms carry manufacturer warranties. Because shutters mount into the frame and have no fabric or cords, they outlast most other window covering types.

Can shutters be installed on arched or specialty windows?
